Avant garde, no?

I always knew I'd get to say it one day.

"I knew Peter Watson before he was famous."

It is something of a relief to be able to say it about him resigning as an ALP candidate in the upcoming Queensland elections.

As always, Slackbastard is the best place to go for all your information regarding matters far-Right and in this case, also far-Left. See here.

My experiences with Peter were not far removed from Comrade Slackbastard's. He first came across my radar sometime in 2007, when I believe he was 14. I can't remember if he first presented as a neo-Nazi or a Stalinist, but at any rate, over the next few years he would oscillate wildly between the two positions. On occasion he would present himself as all at once.

The joke wore thin rather quickly, and sometime in 2008 it occurred to me that he might have some sort of mental illness and that it was best not to indulge his fantasism. Or maybe he was just an incredibly bored teenager who thought it was fun to play dress-ups and couldn't pick a side. Or maybe he genuinely was a Stalinist who was infiltrating white supremacist organisations. Or maybe he genuinely was a neo-Nazi infiltrating socialist organisations. Or maybe who knows? No matter which side he was on, he was never particularly keen on FightDemBack, an anti-racist organisation I was involved with.

At any rate, after the story broke that he had been disendorsed as a Labor candidate, I decided to have a look at some of our past correspondences. This exchange from 2008 appears to be rather prescient. I've edited out some non-pertinent discussion:

Hi Peter,

It is - as always - good to hear from you.

How goes the revolution in Warwick? Fantastic, I hope.

What did you think of Eric Abetz's uncle being outed as a Nazi? What did you think of Wayne Swan being outed as a dope fiend?

Cheerio,

Dear Fight Dem Back,

The revolution in Warwick is going well thank you.

I think Nazis should be deported to force labour camps.

I support Wayne Swan. He is a great man and a real socialist.

Joseph Stalin.

Dear Comrade Peter,

Who do you think would win in a cage fight (no weapons): Dear Leader Kevin Rudd or Comrade Swan.

I am thinking Comrade Swan, due to his dark past, but Dear Leader Kevin Rudd may well have untapped wells of aggression. He looks like he would only need a small push to unleash an unimaginable torrent of pent-up violence. Your thoughts, Comrade Peter?

Dear Comrade FDB,

Comrade Swan would win.

Comrade Kevin Rudd is a tool of the bourgeoisie. He is not the man of the proletariat.

Comrade deputy Prime Minister would be a great proletarian leader. Rudd has links with the bourgeoisie so we cannot trust him.

Proletarian regards,

Peter Watson.

Was there any other political commentator predicting Julia Gillard's toppling of Kevin Rudd in March of 2008? Well done, Peter.

Also included for your reading pleasure is some text from The Red Star, the official organ of the Stalinist League of Australia, regarding Peter's last encounter with the Warwick Daily News:

The Red Star
Journal of the working class Issue 49

Daily News publishes misleading comments about the League.

On the 24th and 28th of September issues of the Daily News, the Daily
News published articles written by the Deputy Editor of the newspaper,
Mr. Jeremy Sollars, that mentioned the League. The articles were
generally positive but contained a number of mistakes and misleading
comments. In the article entitled "weekly whispers" published on the
24th, Mr. Jeremy Sollars claims that the League members were handing
leaflets on Palmerin Street. This is false because they were doing
this opposite to Crazy Clarks out side of the Shopping Centre. Another
mistake is that he claimed that the organization has three members. In
fact it has eight. Mr. Sollars goes on to claim that comrade Stalin
was a dictator and that he committed genocide. Comrade Stalin was not
a dictator because people had more democracy then under the Tsars
through local workers councils in towns, factories, etc. Farm workers
were given farms to collectively own. The claim of genocide is lunacy
in the highest order. Does Mr. Sollars know what the word means?
Genocide is where a government enforces a programme of extermination
on an ethnic group. It is well known amongst intellectuals and
historians that there were no mass campaigns of extermination of
ethnic groups in the Soviet Union. In the article entitled "Pedagogy
of the pimply", Mr. Sollars claims that the League is a new
organization. This is wrong because the League is five years old. He
also makes out that the General Secretary or "head cadre" as Sollars
calls him is around 15. In fact, the General Secretary is 16. Mr.
Sollars yet again makes a wrongful mistake of calling comrade Stalin a
"genocidal communist dictator". As already stated, Stalin was not
genocidal nor was he a dictator. Evidence of this can be found in the
fact that many of comrade Stalin's ideas were rejected. The Deputy
Editor also makes out that the Warwick branch is nothing more then a
pimply bunch of subversive teenage communists "armed with nothing more
than a few copies of the Green Left Weekly". That comment is false and
insulting towards teenagers. Yes, an over whelming majority of the
League members are teens with pimple problems, but that is no reason
to use stereotypes to insult them. It is outrageous to publish such
insults in the local newspaper. The local activists are not subversive
because they campaign openly. Mr. Sollars makes an even more
historically ignorant comment by saying that the great leader himself,
comrade Joseph Stalin, killed ten million people. That is wrong
because the Stalin government was not responsible for the European
Soviet Union famine in the early 1930's nor was the government
responsible for the economic depression faced by the Soviet people
after the civil war and foreign intervention. The real number of dead
that the Stalin government was responsible for was around 600,000 to
two million. Most of these were criminals or traitors, so they
deserved what they got. The form of researched used by the Deputy
Editor is below the standard of respected professional journalists or
even deputy editors. Mr. Sollars admitted to the fact in his article
that he used google and Wikipedia to research the topics. That is
totally unprofessional. The Red Star upholds the principals of
professional journalism and the philosophy.

Update. I found some more correspondence that may be of interest to wonks and the like.

Standing Committee resolution on the 6th anniversary of the October
2002 revolution.

The 6th anniversary of the October 2002 revolution is a great time to
celebrate what people have accomplished in the last six years since
the people of the Watson house overthrew the oppressive dictatorship
of religious and backwardness imposed by Wendy, Webber and the Irish
Catholic.

The League sends its best wishes for happier and more productive times
for the people of the Watson house in their sixth year of the
revolution.

Dear Cam,

There was a revolution in October 2002 when the communists in the Watson house overthrew
the oppressive religious dictatorship imposed by Wendy and Webber. On the 13th of October, the Democratic Peter's Republic was created. Ever since then, my mates and I celebrate the October 2002 revolution. We celebrate by having military parades in the back yard.

How is anarchism and Fight Dem Back going?

Hi Comrade Peter,

Who are Wendy and Webber? Is that mum and dad?

Congratulations on the revolution, at any rate. Anarchism and FDB are going great. The juggernaut that is the Anti Normal Peoples Alliance is unstoppable. [The ANPA was something he accused myself and his science teacher of being part of]

Ciao,

Dear Cam,

Yes, Wendy was my mum but Webber was my teacher not my dad.

Anarchism is simply a smoke screen and Fight Dem Back will not last long. The Stalinist League is in talks with the Australia First Party to form an alliance against revisionism.

Regards
Peter Watson
General Secretary of the
Stalinist League of Australia.

You can see why the ALP would have wanted him as a candidate. He's a master political organiser.
