Okay, yeah... so... I get their purpose. We don't want the poor public being misled by the evil advertising fraternity.
But FreeTV are a bunch of hacks. I make every attempt to be completely honest with viewers, but I'm treated like a fucking criminal... as far as FreeTV are concerned, without their expensive checks and balances, I could go on some sort of wild lying spree at any second.
They turn their backs for but a moment and all of a sudden I'll be like, "WE HAVE THE LARGEST SELECTION IN AUSTRALIA, AND OUR PRICES? LOWER THAN ALL OF THE COMPETITION. PLUS MY PENIS IS ENORMOUS, LADIES! COME RIDE THE ANNIHILATOR!!!!!"
If it were up to me, a commerical that didn't mislead at all would be free for checking, with a sliding scale of charges depending on how misleading a misleading commercial was.
Luckily, regional advertising rarely requires all this... I wonder if that will change come the cross-media ownership revolution? Probably not.
UPDATE: Uh, yeah.
After complaining about being treated like a criminal, it wasn't for another couple of hours that I remembered all of the signatures I forged on the letters I sent them... So, yeah... How much do I feel like Alanis Morisette now, eh?
